# GSW On the arms

#### Gunshot Wound - Arm

Begin with your primary assessment (ABCs). Expose the arm and locate the wound. Check for both an entry and exit wound. Apply direct pressure to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding is severe and won't stop, apply a tourniquet 2–3 inches above the wound and note the time it was applied. Cover the wound with sterile gauze and secure it with a bandage. Check for a pulse below the injury and make sure the patient can still feel and move their fingers. If you think the arm is broken, splint it after the bleeding is under control. Transport the patient as soon as possible.
