# GSW On the chest

#### Gunshot Wound - Chest

Begin with your primary assessment (ABCs). Expose the chest and locate all wounds. Check carefully for both an entry and exit wound. Apply a chest seal to the entry wound. If there is an exit wound, apply a second chest seal over it. Monitor the patient closely for signs of a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) or tension pneumothorax. Watch for increasing difficulty breathing, unequal chest rise, absent or diminished breath sounds on one side, worsening oxygen saturation, cyanosis, tracheal deviation (late sign), or jugular vein distention. Administer oxygen as needed to maintain adequate oxygen saturation and continually reassess the patient's airway, breathing, and circulation. If the patient has signs of cardiac involvement, such as an irregular heart rhythm, unexplained hypotension, or other concerning symptoms, attach a 12-lead ECG if available and continue monitoring throughout transport. Transport the patient as soon as possible.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://emshb.teddwa.xyz/gun-shot-wounds/gsw-on-the-chest.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
